
To determine if the positioning for
your Brand is in need of refinement, ask yourself these
five questions:
- Can your internal team members,
tactical partners, and intended customers recount
your Brand's positioning unaided?
- Does your positioning unquestionably
differentiate your Brand from its competitors? (Hint:
if you can substitute a competitive product name in
place of your Brand in your positioning statement
and it still works, that would be a 'No')
- Is there only one distinct focus
to your positioning? (For example, does it focus on
a single attribute or benefit? How about a specific
use or user? Is it targeting a specific competitor?)
- Have you conducted research to
monitor your progress in capturing and defending your
intended Brand positioning?
- Do you think your Brand is doing
as well as it could?
It's more than likely that
you responded 'No' to at least one of these questions.
